Stamford’s Retail Market continues to Diversify

A quintessential market town strewn with traditional stone buildings wherever you cast your eye – Stamford is a sought-after place to live, and for good reason. With many fantastic schools on your doorstep, gorgeous countryside views and a traditional high street packed with restaurants and shops, Stamford truly is the place to be.

Whilst many high streets across the UK are sadly struggling, the same cannot be said for Stamford. New independent shops and restaurants are regularly opening, allowing its residents to shop sustainably and locally.

Set to open shortly is Fika – a Scandinavian style coffee shop offering a range of delicious cakes, brunch and lunch dishes. Fika is the brainchild of siblings Teodora Naneva and Ivo Nanev who currently run the Oakham branch. Ivo spoke to the Stamford Mercury explaining, “I don’t think there’s anywhere doing brunch the way we do. There’s quite a few coffee shops [in Stamford], some are more old school, we wanted to try something more modern in terms of indulgent brunch.”

Also relatively new to Stamford is the gorgeously enticing Katie Cardew Homeware shop, found at 6 St Mary’s Street. This shop is a true treasure trove of beautiful homeware and gifts, with three rooms of delightfully illustrated products. There is also a dedicated prints room where you can see the vast majority of Katie’s prints on the wall.

Shekleton Wines opened in Chapel Yard in November and has carved out a niche of dedicated wine connoisseurs who appreciate shopping locally and receiving expert advice when choosing their tipple. The environmentally friendly food shop All Good Market launched in St Paul’s Street last October and has proved to be extremely popular with residents wishing to champion local farmers, bakers, and coffee roasters. Also new to St Paul’s Street is Stamford Botanics who opened their doors in April. They stock a range of house plants and equipment and can offer expert advice to those looking to choose the right plant for their home.

As well as the few mentioned, Stamford is home to a plethora of other, unique shops that are well worth a look round. Why not take a stroll through the cobbled streets and see what all the fuss is about? You can be sure you’ll understand why Stamford is so sought after, and why the residents are so proud of it.
