An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away Posted On 01 October 2021

Get your Tastebuds tingling this Apple Day

Do you know your Bramleys from your Galas? Your Spartans from your Evelinas? Your Cameos from your Coxs? If you do, you will feel right at home at Stamford’s annual Apple Day this Saturday. And if you don’t? Fear not, experts will be on hand to educate you about the delicious apples we have available in England.

Stamford’s Apple Day, run by Stamford Community Orchard Group, returns this Saturday 2nd October from 10am-4pm at Stamford Arts Centre. Stamford Community Orchard Group is run entirely by volunteers and is a registered charity. Stamford’s Apple Day is one of the country’s largest apple days and regularly attracts more than 1000 visitors. The experts from Stamford’s Community Orchard Group will be on hand during the day offering valuable advice on how to look after varieties of apple trees people may have in their gardens or any problems they have encountered.

As in previous years, the East of England Apples and Orchards Project will bring along a plethora of different English apple varieties. These experts will also be able to identify any unknown apple varieties brought in on the day. Who knows, perhaps some of the long-lost Stamford apple varieties could be found? If you have a mystery apple you wish to identify, why not bring it along so the apple gurus can cast their expert eyes upon it and attempt to classify it? Make sure you bring part of the branch with a least three leaves and (if possible!) two apples attached.

Set to be the perfect day out for any apple-loving family, there will also be stalls selling apple related gifts and produce, apple bobbing, a tombola, pin the maggot on the apple and many more. There will also be stalls selling organic honey and artisan jewellery. Come and along and sample a freshly pressed apple juice for the kids and perhaps a cheeky local cider for the adults?
